By creating an account, using, or accessing The Binder (the "Service") you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (the "Terms") and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not create an account and do not use the Service.
2. Who may use the Service
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and accepted these Terms on your behalf. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account.
3. Description of the Service
The Binder is a Pokémon Trading Card Game portfolio tracking tool. It aggregates card data and pricing information from publicly available third-party sources (including but not limited to pokemontcg.io, tcgdex.net, TCGPlayer, PriceCharting, and eBay) and provides organizational, analytical, and display features. Any figures shown — including current values, purchase prices, ROI, portfolio health scores, and market trends — are informational only and are generated from third-party data that may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or otherwise unreliable.
4. Not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice
Nothing on the Service constitutes financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. No content on the Service is a recommendation to buy, sell, hold, trade, grade, authenticate, or otherwise act with respect to any trading card, sealed product, collectible, or other asset. Trading cards are collectibles whose value can fluctuate significantly and may decline to zero. You are solely responsible for your collecting, purchasing, selling, grading, authentication, tax, and other decisions, and for evaluating the risks and merits of any transaction.
5. Permitted use and restrictions
You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms and all applicable laws. You agree not to: (a) scrape, bulk-download, or redistribute Service content or third-party data accessed through the Service; (b) reverse engineer, decompile, or circumvent any security mechanism; (c) use the Service to infringe intellectual property rights of any party; (d) use the Service in any way that is unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, or harmful; or (e) interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
6. Your content and data
You retain ownership of the collection entries, notes, watchlists, settings, and other data you create on the Service ("Your Content"). You grant The Binder a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, transmit, and display Your Content solely as necessary to provide the Service to you and to back up and restore your data. You are responsible for the accuracy and legality of Your Content.
7. Third-party services and content
The Service integrates with third-party providers, including Supabase (authentication and storage), Anthropic (AI assistant features), Brave Search (web search for the AI assistant), TCGPlayer, PriceCharting, eBay, pokemontcg.io, and tcgdex.net. These providers operate their own services under their own terms and privacy policies. The Binder is not responsible for third-party content, pricing, availability, or practices. API keys you configure for Anthropic, Brave, or eBay are stored locally on your device and are your responsibility to secure.
8. Intellectual property
The Pokémon Trading Card Game, including all card names, card art, set names, logos, trademarks, and associated imagery, is the intellectual property of The Pokémon Company, Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures, and/or Wizards of the Coast. The Binder is not produced by, endorsed by, supported by, or affiliated with any of these companies. All such intellectual property is used here solely for identification and informational purposes. The Binder's own software, branding, original UI, and non-Pokémon content are the property of The Binder and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
9. Account termination
You may delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms, pose a security risk, or have engaged in unlawful activity. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, OR AVAILABILITY. You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless The Binder and its operators from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. Material revisions will be signaled by an updated "Effective" date and, where appropriate, by a re-acceptance prompt inside the Service. Continued use of the Service after a revision takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Service operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. To the extent permitted by law, any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration, and you waive any right to participate in a class action. If arbitration is not available, the exclusive forum for any dispute shall be the courts of that jurisdiction.
"The Binder" refers to the Pokémon TCG portfolio application and its operator. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Service collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and the choices available to you.
2. Information we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, chosen username, display name, and an optional avatar image. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email, name, and profile picture as provided by Google.
Collection and settings data. Cards and sealed products you add, purchase prices, condition, quantities, dates acquired, watchlist entries, binders, display preferences, and accent color choices.
Authentication data. Session tokens and related metadata managed by our authentication provider.
Diagnostic data. Minimal server logs (IP address, user agent, timestamp) necessary to operate the Service.
Local-only data. API keys you configure for Anthropic, Brave Search, or eBay are stored in your browser's local storage on your device and are not transmitted to The Binder's servers.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to create and authenticate your account, sync your collection and settings across your devices, operate and maintain the Service, diagnose issues, prevent abuse, and communicate essential service notices. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for targeted advertising.
4. Third-party services
The Service uses the following third-party providers, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:
Supabase — authentication, database, and storage for your account and collection data.
Anthropic — powers the in-app AI assistant ("BYTE AI") using the API key you provide. Prompts and responses are sent to Anthropic.
Brave Search — used by the AI assistant for web lookups when you provide a Brave key.
TCGPlayer, PriceCharting, eBay, pokemontcg.io, tcgdex.net — used for card metadata and pricing. Requests may include your IP address as visible to any normal HTTP request.
5. Cookies and local storage
The Service uses local storage and, for authenticated sessions, cookies set by Supabase to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. You can clear these at any time through your browser.
6. Data retention
Your account data is retained for as long as your account remains active. When you delete your account from Settings, your profile, collection, watchlist, and sync records are removed from our systems, subject to short retention windows required by backups and legal obligations.
7. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal information we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can export your collection as JSON at any time from Settings → Data Management, and delete your account from Settings → Account.
8. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will promptly delete it.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No system is perfectly secure; you use the Service at your own risk.
10. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers where permitted by applicable law.
11. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Effective" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be highlighted within the Service.

About The Binder
The Binder tracks your Pokemon TCG portfolio against real market data. Here's
where every number on this site comes from, how often it refreshes, and what's
still a work in progress.
Where prices come from
Raw cards (ungraded)TCGPLAYER
Every raw card pulls its market price from TCGPlayer's public search API
— the same market price that shows on tcgplayer.com. For Pokemon TCG
cards we use the holofoil market value when a holo exists,
otherwise the normal market price. When TCGPlayer is missing a
card entirely (mostly niche JP promos) we fall back to the Pokemon TCG
API's cached TCGPlayer snapshot.
Graded prices come from eBay's sold-listings data via the Finding API.
We query the last 20 sold items matching the exact
card + grade + company and average them — so a PSA 10 Base Set Charizard
reflects what Charizards in that grade have actually sold for recently,
not an asking price. When sold data isn't available (brand-new cards,
obscure grades) we fall back to eBay's Browse API active listings as a
rough asking-price indicator.
Sealed products price against TCGPlayer first, with PriceCharting as a
fallback for out-of-print sets TCGPlayer no longer carries.
PriceCharting aggregates eBay sold data itself, so the chain terminates
at real market transactions either way.
Japanese cardsTCGPLAYERTCGDEX
JP card data (names, sets, images) comes from TCGdex, which maintains the
most complete Japanese catalog. Prices follow the same TCGPlayer-first
logic as EN cards — merged onto the TCGdex record by name + number. Some
JP-exclusive sets (World Championships promos, trophy cards, unreleased
expansions) don't have reliable market data anywhere; those show an
estimated or "unpriced" value until a better source exists.
How often prices refresh
Every page load triggers a background refresh for the
Card of the Day and anything visible above the fold. The "refresh
all prices" button in the top-right of the header scans your
entire collection + watchlist and pulls fresh data for each item.
Signed-in users also get a daily auto-refresh
that runs once every 24 hours in the background so your numbers stay
current without manual work.
Market Trends — work in progress
The Market Trends tab is currently a placeholder. Eventually it'll
aggregate week-over-week movement across the sets and cards you care
about — gainers, losers, new chase cards emerging, sealed product
delta. The full dashboard design lives in our git history and is
queued to restore once the daily price-history backfill is wired up.
No numbers are being computed yet; treat any chart
in that tab as a mockup until this section goes away.
How your data is stored
Guest-mode data lives only in your browser's localStorage. Signed-in
data syncs to Supabase (Postgres) with row-level security —
every table is scoped by auth.uid() = user_id, so no
user can read or write another user's data, even via the raw REST
endpoint. The anonymous/publishable key shipped in our client code
is safe by design: it can only do what the security policies allow.
You can export or delete everything at any time from the Account
section of these settings.
